Discovering the GAP Farm

The GAP Farming Orchard Resort, simply regarded as the GAP Farm, was one of the most famous tourist attractions of Davao City during the 1980s and 1990s. Before the Philippine Eagle Park, Crocodile Park, People’s Park, beach resorts, and inland and mountain resorts, there was the Gap Resort already. You can imagine how thousands of people flocked to the park on any given day during that era. Luckily, management has well-maintained the farm so that the generations of today will be able to appreciate the beauty and mystery the famous farm provides.

The famous tagline was due to the efforts of the GAP Farm as the said tagline is clearly written in concrete letters lying on the trimmed grass on a sloping hill, set against the backdrop of a lush green forest. Picture it as something similar to the Hollywood sign of Beverly Hills, for a simpler description. It is a view that often photographed by visitors and tourists and is still standing now after decades of existence. It’s a definite photo opportunity that certifies your visit to Davao.

In the cave area of the Farm, a giant smiling Cyclops statue welcomes guests. This one-eyed giant monster is confined in a old tunnel that was built during the Japanese occupation. It looks kind of freaky upon entering the tunnel as the statue looks intricately built. It is yet another great photo op, this time of the kind where you can mess around with your friends.

The most recent addition to the statue collection are the mystic Philippine spirit creatures called the “Conferencia ng mga Multo” or the Ghosts’ Conference. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by statues of popular Philippine ghosts and monsters like the white lady, tikbalang or the half-man half-horse, and the kapre or the smoking giant. Stories about these gremlins and hobgoblins date back centuries and no one knows for sure if they really exist or not. The GAP Farm then becomes the perfect place for brave visitors to see images of these creatures for themselves.
