It is quite an impressive effort to maintain and conserve some of nature’s gifts in one sanctuary amidst the heavy industrialization and progress of a city. Supported by the Philippine Eagle Foundation, the center aims to raise awareness of people about the need to conserve our natural resources. The center also serves as an educational venue to learn about captive breeding techniques, conservation breeding programs and community-based programs. Even better, lectures on issues such as field research programs, conservation education programs and the Philippine Eagle Foundation can be arranged as well.

For more special education programs, visitors can engage in activities such as the keeper talk wherein the bird’s caretaker will talk about the specific bird’s characteristics, biology, other interesting facts and the bird’s life at the Center. Falconry activities will then let visitors see the birds in action in the air rather than being enclosed in their cages. Finally, students will take pleasure in learning about eagles and life sciences through specific modules and themes in the open classroom projects of the center.

The Philippine Eagle Center simulates a tropical rain forest setting and is 45 minutes to an hour away from downtown Davao City. In order to maintain and support its operations, the management collects a 50 peso fee for adults and a 30 peso entrance fee for kids. It’s a small price to pay to catch a glimpse of the beauty of these endangered species. A guided tour is available at the center free of charge but it should be booked in advance to ensure the availability of the guides on your visit. The Center is open from 8 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon daily, which includes holidays.
